Our Story

Founded on a love of the stage

Aurora Arts Theatre has been bringing live theatre to the Coastal Bend since opening its doors in January 2010. Today, we continue that mission with every production, every performer, and every audience member who walks through our doors.

Founded by Ed Chapa and led today by Mary Chapa, the theatre was built on a passion for storytelling, creativity, and access to high-quality live performances close to home.

The theatre’s name honors Ed’s mother, Aurora “Loli” Chapa Taylor, whose love of creativity and craftsmanship continues to inspire every production we bring to the stage.

Recognized by Corpus Christi

The City of Corpus Christi proclaimed January 22, 2020, as “Aurora Arts Theatre Day,” and again recognized the theatre in 2025 for its continued impact on the community.

Our Mission

Aurora Arts Theatre is committed to producing high-quality live theatre in a welcoming, inclusive environment that brings people together in the Coastal Bend.
