5 Reasons to See Blithe Spirit at Aurora
Aurora Arts Theatre presents Noël Coward’s classic comedy Blithe Spirit, directed by Jessica Chang with Assistant Director Mario Aguilar and Stage Manager Julie Thigpen. First staged in 1941, the play remains one of the most celebrated comedies in theatre with its sharp dialogue, supernatural chaos, and unforgettable characters.
One of the Most Successful Comedies Ever Written
Few comedies have the staying power of Noël Coward’s Blithe Spirit. The play premiered in London in 1941 and ran for nearly 2,000 performances, becoming one of the most successful stage comedies ever produced.
The story follows novelist Charles Condomine who invites an eccentric psychic to his home while researching his next book. The séance works a little too well. The ghost of his first wife suddenly appears and refuses to leave, turning an elegant English dinner party into supernatural chaos.
A Volunteer Cast That Donated Over 2,000 Hours
Aurora’s production features twelve volunteer actors from across the Coastal Bend. Each cast member contributes roughly ninety-six hours of rehearsal before opening night. Across the full cast that represents more than 1,150 hours of rehearsal time.
During the run, actors return for approximately four and a half hours each performance across sixteen shows. When rehearsal and performance hours are combined, the cast alone contributes more than 2,016 volunteer hours to this production.
The twelve performers in Blithe Spirit will collectively contribute more than two thousand volunteer hours to bring this production to the Aurora stage.
Two Casts Share the Run
Aurora is introducing something new with this production. Two casts share the run of Blithe Spirit. One cast performs Friday and Saturday while a second cast performs Sunday. The direction and staging remain consistent, but each group of actors brings its own interpretation to the roles.

Comedy Works Best on Stage
Comedy behaves differently in a theatre than it does on a screen. Timing changes with every audience.
Actors respond in real time to the reactions in the room. Laughter spreads across the audience and the rhythm of the performance evolves throughout the evening.
And best of all — you get to sit and see the actors’ facial expressions just a couple of feet away from the stage.
Support Local Live Theatre
Aurora Arts Theatre has produced live theatre in Corpus Christi since 2010. Productions rely on volunteers, local artists, and community support to make every show possible.
When you attend a performance you help keep live theatre active in the Coastal Bend while supporting opportunities for local performers to step onto the stage.
