"A Christmas Story" Takes Center Stage at Aurora Arts Theatre

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Nov. 8, 2022) — A Christmas Story, The Musical returns to Aurora Arts Theatre Friday, Nov. 18, through Sunday, Jan. 7.

Directed by Debra Aguilar, choreographed by Alexandra Shaw, and with vocal direction by Peter Lopez, the local production features a talented cast of 32 Coastal Bend performers, as well as a live orchestra. Performed in an intimate 108-seat theater setting, audience members enjoy a unique, more immersive theater experience of the holiday fan favorite.

“We’re thrilled to bring A Christmas Story, The Musical back to the mainstage just in time for the holidays,” said Dylan Rios, marketing director for Aurora Arts Theater. “Our cast and crew have been working tirelessly, and this show is sure to bring back holiday nostalgia with Ralphie, Randy, Miss Shields, and the Old Man.”

Produced with permission of Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures and Dalfie Entertainment, there will be 19 performances this season: three performances each weekend — Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., and a Sunday matinee show at 2:30 p.m. — with the exception of Dec. 24 and 25.

A classic since its release in 1983, the original movie, A Christmas Story, was written by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown and Bob Clark, based upon the book In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash written by Shepherd. A Christmas Story, the Musical was authored by Tony Award winner Joseph Robinette, with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek. The show has received rave reviews on its Broadway run since its debut in 2009.

Set in the 1940s in the fictional town of Hohman, Indiana, the musical follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his quest for the holy grail of Christmas gifts—an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. The delightfully versatile score ranges from gentle ballads to show-stopping full-ensemble numbers such as "Ralphie to the Rescue!", "A Major Award," "Sticky Situation," "Up on Santa's Lap," "Somewhere Hovering Over Indiana" and the inevitable "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!"

Tickets are $20 for all shows and can be purchased online at auroraartstheatre.com, through the theater box office at 5635 Everhart Road in Corpus Christi, or by calling (361) 851-9700. Box office hours are 9 a.m.–3 p.m., Wednesday through Friday. Patrons requiring special accommodations are urged to notify the Box Office at least two weeks in advance.

“We ‘triple dog dare you’ to see this show,” said Rios.
