Shirley Valentine To Open At Aurora Arts Theatre

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (May 21, 2021) — Aurora Arts Theatre (AAT) is excited to announce Willy Russell’s 1986 one-woman comedy, Shirley Valentine, set to open May 28, 2021, at the Aurora Arts Theatre.

Shirley Valentine, a wife and mother of two grown children, feels trapped and unappreciated as she thinks of her life and embarks on a mission to keep her life in perspective. Determined to regain her sense of identity, she unleashes her newfound inner strength and self-determination and makes uncharacteristic decisions to reframe her mundane life. Along the way, she shares the hilarious and poignant stories that molded her into her new self - the new and improved Shirley Valentine.

“The play stars Sherri Davis, an Aurora Favorite. Sherri has been a part of the Aurora since our first year in operation. A wonderful actor, a wonderful friend, and most definitely a must-see in this production,” said executive director, Mary Chapa.

AAT also announced its summer production, Casa Rio, a South Texas comedy opening June 25th directed by Frank Garcia. A local favorite that will bring tears of laughter to your face. Oh, and not forgotten are young actors in the community! Preparations and registrations are underway for fun-filled summer camp sessions that will cover a myriad of theatre fundamentals.

With regards to CDC developments, based on the latest reports from the Centers of Disease Control (CDC), patrons who are fully vaccinated can watch without wearing a face covering. Unvaccinated patrons as well as those who would still prefer to wear a mask are encouraged to do so. AAT will now maximize our seating capacity; however, we will continue to social distance with one empty seat between each group.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has put a great financial burden on the Aurora. We are hopeful that our upcoming productions and educational programming will help pull us through this struggle and enable us to continue with the season. Now more than ever, it is time to support the arts.”

Patrons can purchase tickets or register their children for summer camp at auroraartstheatre.com or call our Box Office at 361-851-9700.
